BASIC LP GAS REGULATIONS

According to SANS 10087-1, the regulations state where a LP Gas cylinder may or may not be placed and how an installation must be completed.

Essential LP Gas Regulations: Placement and Installation Guidelines

1: LP Gas cylinders may not be placed closer than 1m from a door.

2: LP Gas cylinders may not be placed closer than 2m from an open drain or depression, where the gas can gather if the LP Gas cylinder leaks.

3: LP Gas cylinders may not be placed closer than 5m from an electrical switch, motor, aircon, generator, pool pump etc.

4: LP Gas Cyliders may not be placed closer than 1m from a openable window unless a non-combustible roof is installed between the cylinders and the window. The roof shall extend beyond the cylinders such that when measured from the valve connection and around the roof to the nearest point of the window a minimum of 1.5m safety distance shall be obtained.

5: LP Gas cylinders may not be placed closer than 1m from a boundry wall, unless the wall is a double brick “firewall” >1.8m tall, with no ventilation gaps in the wall.
